Quotes and Comments

As you can see from my blog, there are many, many things that turned me off to Christianity and religion in general. This blog is about the ignorant things that “men of god” have said that made me want to run fast and far from any organized religion. I will just include a few quotes and my comments about them.

"AIDS is the wrath of a just God against homosexuals. To oppose it would be like an Israelite jumping in the Red Sea to save one of Pharaoh's charioteers ... AIDS is not just God's punishment for homosexuals; it is God's punishment for the society that tolerates homosexuals." Jerry Falwell

Okay, Do I really need to comment on this? No, but I will. The day Jerry Falwell died I did a happy dance. How can you call yourself anything close to moral and say something so horrible about your fellow humans? Jerry, why did you care who someone loved and showed love for in the privacy of their bedroom? And one more thing… What kind of “just” god would create humans the way they are (some of us are gay, deal with it!) and then give them AIDS to punish them for being the way he created them? Have you thought about that Jerry? No? You can’t because you are dead? Oh damn!

"The idea that religion and politics don't mix was invented by the Devil to keep Christians from running their own country." Jerry Falwell

Ignorant ass! You are a perfect example of why religion and politics should not mix! Not everyone in the U.S. is a Christian and it is arrogant to assume that this is your country! How would you feel if a Muslim or Catholic said the same kind of thing? Scared? Controlled? Worried for the future of your country?

Jerry seems to like this a little too much. Could that be his problem?

"Rail as they will about 'discrimination,' women are simply not endowed by nature with the same measures of single-minded ambition and the will to succeed in the fiercely competitive world of Western capitalism."
--Pat Buchanan (11/22/83)

Oh Pat, you silly, silly freak. I would like to name a few things that you are not endowed with. Are women that much of a threat to you?

"Just like what Nazi Germany did to the Jews, so liberal America is now doing to the evangelical Christians. It's no different. It is the same thing. It is happening all over again. It is the Democratic Congress, the liberal-based media and the homosexuals who want to destroy the Christians. Wholesale abuse and discrimination and the worst bigotry directed toward any group in America today. More terrible than anything suffered by any minority in history." –Pat Robertson

Mr. Robertson, how the hell can you think you are a persecuted group similar to the Jews? And what could homosexuals possibly do to YOU and other Christians to destroy them? Do you have so little faith in your god that you think he will allow the homos to hurt ya? You are a sad excuse for a human. You calling yourself a minority while you rake in millions every year from your sheep followers would definitely NOT put you in the minority group you ass clown!

So, as you can see by my comments. I don’t deal well with ignorant people who hate others simply because they choose a different religion from theirs. Why would I want to follow a religion that is controlled and run by fools like this? There is so much hate and discontent in the Christian community right now that I am shocked that some people stay as long as they do. I feel free and happy to be out of all the hate and control. I only wish that the people I love would see it.

P.S. Before you comment, please know that I understand that ALL Christians are not like Jerry and Pat. This blog is my therapy and my way of explaining why I am not a follower of Christianity.

And that's a bad thing? We don't, in general, have the single minded tunnel vision necessary to make dumb ass mean comments like that or the single minded focus needed to commit such atrocities as, ahem, WAR.

so, um, i'm cool with not being single-minded and ... stupid. k?

you said: "There is so much hate and discontent in the Christian community right now that I am shocked that some people stay as long as they do."

yep, that is reason #'s 1,2, & 3 i don't go to church! too much ickiness! this morning i pretty much dislike everything so this post just confirm people are far too often assholes and maybe i should live on the moon ... or in Oregon :P

  3. Are you rejecting Jesus for the profoundly stupid things that He said or for the things that Robertson and others have said?

'Cause you know what? You aren't going to have to answer to Robertson et al.

"Whoever believes in Me is not condemned, but whoever does not believe in Me stands condemned already."

"If you do not believe that I Am who I say that I Am, you will die in your sins."

See! No Falwell, no Robertson, no Buchanan - nothing about gays or abortion.

    Just Jesus talking to you.

  4. Dear Thesauros,

See, here is the thing... If you took the time to read my whole blog, you would know why I have "rejected jesus." Since I am am atheist, it means I don't believe in your jesus, so I really don't give a flying flip what "he" is saying to me. Are you the expert on "jesus talk?" It means about as much as what the tooth ferry told my kids when they were little. You really make no case at all by leaving ignorant comments!

  5. Sheesh, I'm glad I live in a relatively secular nation. (:

Also, I wish people would quote the original Aramaic Bible text. I don't trust all these hippie modern translations into a broader, vastly different language. So much of the violent subtext is lost!

  6. Thesauros, How tasteless can you get? Also, funny story.. turns out it's the Spaghetti Monster that's real. You should believe "he is" because if you don't, you'll have to answer to his noodley appendages. If you find yourself unable to believe in the Spaghetti Monster, please do let us know what hurdles stand in your way. Please do so while leaving out the old pointless remarks about not being able to "see" him or his appendages. I don't want to hear your heathenish view on why you can't tell his noodles are everywhere, in my life and yours. Stick to logic and facts, buddy.

I was once a believer. I once thought that "god" did everything. I once "tested" god. And when "god" did not answer I brushed it aside. I made up excuses and I let people feed my lie. I surrounded myself with like-minded people because I was scared that if I hung out with anyone else they could corrupt me.

Thesauros, I fear you may have been abducted by aliens at some point. They took the real you and filled your head with lies and embarrassing stories about Jesus and a "god" It is not too late. You can get help for this condition.

During one of my "god" tests I was in desperate need of a job. The day I applied for this job I really wanted I got a frog tattoo. I decided he would be my lucky charm. When I got home that day there was the cutest little frog waiting for me. When I got inside I had a message that I got the job! I am now convinced the little green frog is my good luck charm. He got me that job!

My friend, your god doesn't make any logical sense. And don't tell me that's what faith is for. I know all about faith. Faith is the confident belief or trust in the truth or trustworthiness of a person, concept or The English word is thought to date from 1200–50, from the Latin fidem or fidēs, meaning trust, derived from the verb fīdere, to trust. Perhaps you are choosing to trust in this god of yours because you have been told to. Or because you are delusional. Either way I would like to suggest that you try and think on your own for a moment. Why do you NEED god? Why do you need this belief? what are you getting out of it?

I would like you to challenge yourself. And perhaps read some books on how religion originated. "Why are there so many different religions? Why, so many different gods in this world?" Can you find a good reason?

  8. Cateherine,
I think your the one who needs to study more before you let loose on thinking you have all the answers. You should challenge yourself since your so sure that God does not exist- than prove it. Not just by thoughts or your theories really prove it. Its funny how some people have all the answers because they read a book about accusations against faith.

  9. Dear Anonymous (too scared to leave your name?)

Catherine is not the one who believes in a magic sky-daddy; you do. So, YOU need to prove the existence of such a thing. Since none of us has seen any evidence of your god. The burden falls on YOU!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Anonymous -- The burden of proof lies on the person making a positive claim (in this case, you). Lori is not obligated to prove that something doesn't exist; you need to show evidence that it does exit.

Lori -- I know someone who would fit this study you described. I'll let her know.

  11. A pox on all Jesus-trolls. And great post! This process can be really painful but you're doing all the right stuff, as far as I can tell.

One can neither prove or dis-prove the existence of a higher power. It is arrogant of anyone to believe that they KNOW one way or the other considering how infantile we are in the universe. Just take at look at our medical practices as an example. We cut out body parts and all the surrounding tissue to "cure" someone. We radiate and poison the disease in hopes it dies before the patient. We are full of ourselves if we even begin to claim a true understanding of the powers the universe has yet to unfold.

I appreciate your opinion and respect your right to it. Be careful not to fall into the same behavior as those you despise by making a mockery of their faith (ie. Magic Sky Daddy). The "REAL" truth is that no one on this earth truly knows what awaits and those that do are not or can not tell.

One thing to consider is, if they are wrong, then they just die and return to mother earth as organic matter. However, if you are wrong, you'll have some splainin' to do... Either way I am thankful that we all have the right to believe what we wish and as mature adults should be able to discuss it without prejudice towards another point of view. For me, the Jury is still out.

  13. YS,
There is actually tons of evidence there is no puppet master. Yet not one shred of evidence there is. Try and make statements that actually sound smart, even if you are not.

It seems ridiculous that you would tell someone who has this blog to say what SHE thinks and believes that she needs to " be careful not to fall into the same mockery..." "magic sky daddy" You sound like you think you are something pretty special and seem to think you are knowledgeable.

The awesome thing about this blog is that it is written from a pure heart. What kind of person would write a response like this?

Btw, your undecided point of view is disgusting. It seems that people who live in fear of "maybe's and what ifs" are truly the disgusting ones. And if you want to pull a Jesus quote here is one for you. "it is better to be hot or cold. for if you are lukewarm I will vomit you from my mouth"...

  14. ohmygod. i can't even begin to tell you how glad i am to have found your blog; to have found someone else who was a good, strong, christian girl, but left it all behind. thank you for being open about it! i look forward to reading more of what you have written. i am trying to give myself permission to start being more open about my journey away from christianity, but it's hard; i hate the judgments that i know will come. :/

  15. Wow, some of these quotes are new to me, and I am no stranger to Falwell, Robertson, and other Evang-idiots who somehow make it onto tv. I've stumbled upon your blog from a link on Redheaded Skeptic's site, and I will be following now. I like your warmth and sincerity.

  16. In reference to the AIDS comment, which has been repeated so very often, I think that it's important to recognize that it is factually erronious. While I /think/ that HIV is in fact higher among homosexuals than among heterosexuals in the United States, world wide the statistics are either equal, or heterosexuals with HIV clearly outnumber homosexuals.

How could "god" punish a specific group without distinguishing them from everyone else? Even if we could accept that the behavior deserves punishment, how is the punishment just?

    Just a thought.
